My great Guru of expression, Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj
My great Guru of expression, Pt. Jai Kishan Maharaj

A few clicks of my Guru pt.Jai Kishan Maharaj, performing his the most famous ghat bhaav – Makhan chori (a short story told only through the art of abhinaya – mimic and gestures- depicting little Lord Krishna stealing the butter from gopis). The elder son of Pt. Birju Maharaj gained a mastery in changing himself into little, plump, very naughty boy. Proving that Kathak is not only the art of rythom and grace, but the one of story telling. Expression means to be real, to play emotion, to reach the level on which there is no more “performer” but just “character on stage”.
